New Website

Friday, May 26th, 2006

I launched a new website recently, it’s just a small corporate site for a relative but I think it came out OK for what it is.

I wanted to run a transparent PNG image in the background to get a nice shadow effect, it works in Firefox OK but the support for PNG in IE is terrible. I tried to use the microsoft filter which worked, but it disabled my hyperlinks for some reason. So in ie you get an old fashioned webdithered GIF and in Firefox you get a nice 32 bit PNG file.

Check it out here. www.silvertonmedicolegal.com (its taking a while for the server to update for some reason.)

sIFR 3

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Mark Wubben has been developing the next version of sIFR.
If you desperately want to use a particular font for a heading and you’re willing to go to the trouble, then this is the best solution for you (maybe try version 2 first).
It replaces the headings with a SWF file that contains your font then inserts the heading text in the swf.

Google Analytics

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

I received my Google Analytics invitation code finally last week, so I have some stats starting to filter through it.

I am very impressed, especially with the kinds of data it can retrieve; connection speed, flash versions, geographic locations, and the overlay feature is great.

Some of the interesting data that I have found so far; no one using 800×600 screen resolution (in the last 230 visits). Also 70% of people visiting have a cable/DSL connection. And over 80% of people have Flash version 8 or above.

Of course my stats are skewed towards a particular usergroup but I was still surprised about the amount of broadband users, I will try to see if I can correlate the connection speed with the geographic region.
