FlashVR 360

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Came across FlashVR this morning. It creates 360 degree scrolling panoramas in SWF format.

I am really impressed with how easy it is. I did this in a matter of seconds. It’s main advantage over other technologies is that its using the flash plugin rather than having to download the ipix plugin or the massive quicktime download. There are some Java players out there as well, but they always seem a bit clumsy to me.

Also this way makes it easy to integrate into the site. It’s not free, so if someone knows of a FLA available that acheives the same thing then send me an email tim _at_ timmadden _dot_ com _dot_ au (an effort to combat spam). The principal seems to be have multiple MCs on stage with JPEG scrolling in them offsetting at the left and right edges to get the wrap effect.

sIFR 3

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Mark Wubben has been developing the next version of sIFR.
If you desperately want to use a particular font for a heading and you’re willing to go to the trouble, then this is the best solution for you (maybe try version 2 first).
It replaces the headings with a SWF file that contains your font then inserts the heading text in the swf.

Flash Slideshow Pro

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I have been playing around with slideshow pro over the last couple of weeks and I have to recommend it highly. It’s very customisable, feature packed, and easy to implement. It plugs into flickr or use your own xml. It has extra tools for creating an xml file from a folder of images and it’s only $20. Anyone wanting to do slideshows online, this is the tool, now I need a html version to do the same thing, im sure it’s out there.

Sajid Saiyed has done a great job on creating a flash interface for WordPress, and has started it as an opensource project at sourceforge. So you could have a flash site with WordPress as your administration, nice.

Sorenson Squeeze Beta

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Jens Loeffler has a post linking to the Sorenson Squeeze beta release that supports the encoding of the new ON2 VPN6 video codec in flash player 8. I am not sure of the future for Sorenson as it seems Macromedia is releasing an encoder with Flash itself? I would see sorenson trying to push its product as a more robust application with more features for better workflow?
